tv   Right This Minute  ABC  February 6, 2013 2:30pm-3:00pm EST

2:30 pm
hi, everybody. i'm beth troutman. we've got the best videos from the web, "right this minute." this has to be one of the closest calls ever when two cars collide right next to this pedestrian. >> see why she was standing at the intersection of lucky and alive. >> holy -- [ bleep ]. >> at bottom of the mountain, you don't want to see this coming at ya. >> that is a rock slide. >> see how it rounds the corner, and how those guys got out of there. >> oh -- ah -- ah. ever see a baby giraffe coming into this world? >> this is a long way down. >> the video that will you have saying, ah, nature. plus the buzzword for a chance at a brand new i pad mini, and find out the secret ingredients in this guy's brand new breakfast. >> this is creepy. >> what's wrong with this? >> i feel he's going to eat his breakfast and then eat you.
2:31 pm
a horrific accident in oakland, california, just happened to be caught on video camera. we got the story. pay attention what's going on in the intersection. you see person crossing the street. watch the top of your screen. >> oh, no. >> my goodness. >> as you can tell, two cars collide right next to this pedestrian. fortunately, this pedestrian saw it happening and jumped back and was completely uninjured. watch this a little closer up. >> wow. are you kidding? >> split seconds to react. >> a split second to react and watch the pedestrian walk away. the story behind this accident i think is even more terrifying. the suv that caused this accident was stolen just a few blocks away from this intersection. the woman who stole the vehicle and who caused this accident was killed instantly in this crash. fortunately, the woman that she hit that was driving the burgundy honda got away with just minor injuries, and it's
2:32 pm
shocking that she only had minor injuries when you see the damage to her car. the driver's own sister rushed to the scene after seeing news reports. >> i was in shock. i thought she was dead because he said something died. and the way the car looked, it was a big relief. >> i can't imagine, got a seat belt on. get out of there. >> so far police have not identified her, because she didn't have any i.d. on her person at the time of the accident. the camera that happened to catch this accident was mounted on a market just across the street. the owner actually heard the entire crash happen, and came out to see what was going on. >> thankfully the judge would say, stealing a car, didn't kill a pedestrian and didn't kill the driver of that other car. if you think an avalanche is scary, wait until you see this. this is video that was sent exclusively to us here at "right this minute." this is mount dixon in new zealand at the mount cook
2:33 pm
national park, and that is a rock slide. >> holy [ bleep ]! >> we might have to run aside at -- get back. >> holy -- >> let's just keep it on. >> i would start getting out of the way. >> run! >> you can hear the people talking about the slide that was 1.5 miles long coming down the mountain. it looks like it's coming right for them. climber steve smith from sydney, australia was practicing avalanche rescue techniques with a group when all of a sudden this starts coming down mount dixon. looks like an avalanche, except this is rocks. >> oh, my god! oh -- ah -- ah. >> you saw that little red shack right there? that is where the group of climbers were staying.
2:34 pm
this is 650 feet away. almost taking that thing down and the group with it. >> man is that is nasty. now video came out last month of this same rock slide from above. pictures that gives you the idea of the size of this thing. look at that. >> nothing of this size has happened at this national park in 20 years. the largest recent rock fall happened in 1991 they said that thing was what happened in recent force. you have to imagine what did this group of climbers do? >> the next day they had to be air lifted out of there. nobody was hurt, but they got dangerously close to these rocks. >> no my god. >> oh, ah, ah. >> i think we can agree that
2:35 pm
pilots are skilled individuals especially when they have to fly in conditions like this. these are coming into the airport in nogermany. you can see the airliner coming inside ways fighting off the wind that is trying to push them in a different direction. >> you can't help but think of what it is like to be a passenger on that flight. and that is when you apply the pilot. the guy who uploaded this said it took him 13 months to capture images like this. so the planes come in on a bit of an angle and you can see them tw take off as well. >> i can't believe they were able to take off. it is like he was able to take
2:36 pm
control. you are holding on like you are on the plane. >> we are not buckled in yet. >> is your tray table up? >> you need a cocktail for that one. >> it is 12 minutes long. the 8330, go to our website and click on best of rtc. >> video coming from a train station. look at this video. a lot is going on. look to the right. you will see something circle. that woman appears to fall out of the train but it looks like her bags are thrown out of the her. what what happens next. she gets up and then watch her take a tumble. she takes a tumble but she is kind of out of sight. it looks like nobody at the station an see her and then the first train comes.
2:37 pm
>> there is nowhere for her to go. what happens? there is that space between the platform between the wheels and the rail and the platform. >> keen observation. after the train comes anlds goes, what what happens. you see the hand come up. people come along and realize there is a woman down there, we need to help her. you will be surprised to know she suffered back pain. >> she seemed to be impaired when she stumbled off the tracks. she lays down on the platform and doesn't move. that is crazy. you think you are watching somebody die. it was not her day to go. >> this guy gives a brave inspired speech to get pumped
2:38 pm

"america"? >> yeah. >> awesome. those mattresses in college are like plastic. perfect for, well, if you have a
2:42 pm
bed-wetting problem, but also if you're taking it down the stairs. >> america! >> second video, how do you sled when you don't have an incline but you've got the snow and the sled. of course, the back of the car. >> and that's not enough. you got to put up a couple obstacles including a jump. >> is that intentional? >> yeah. the garbage cans are intentional. boom! piled up a couple plastic bins. right through it. jackass style. who needs a hill? >> yeah. the scotland rugby team has fallen on some tough times. they're going through some coaching changes. the season's not going so great, and recently they're heading into twickenham where they haven't had a win since 1983. only four wins in the last 46 attempts. so they needed a little pick me up. so did their fans. right? >> uh-huh. >> maybe this will do the trick. >> scotland --
2:43 pm
>> seven feet tall. >> men by the hundreds, and if he were here, he can shoot fireballs from his ass and bolts of lightning from his [ bleep ]. >> as you can tell, this is, of course, a slightly modified version of the famous speech from the movie "braveheart." >> i love william wallace. >> the whole army. >> four guys here and defiance of tyranny, come to fight -- what would you do? fight, fight! >> we will run! >> this guy's got full command of the subway car. >> many years from now would you be willing, for here to this, there's one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they make take our lives but they will never take -- >> wow. you know he sold me at the end. i'm totally rooting for scotland. >> you're ready to go, ready to win. right? >> yeah.
2:44 pm
>> well, they lost. they lost 4-2. so the losing streak continues. >> such a better story if they had won. >> usa! usa! usa! usa! >> at lion country is a for a any south florida something beautiful happened while a bunch of park guest was there. >> ah! >> oh, boy. >> here comes the goop. >> there's not a lot of goop, but it's pretty amazing how the mommy giraffe here is in the middle of birth. the video picks up after the head has already come out. back two legs, back of the body, still waiting to come out. i have to say, mom is pretty calm. >> look how she's just standing there. you can kind of see the muscles in her stomach and back contracting but the baby just hanging there. >> baby's like, this is a long way down. look how big that thing is. >> the baby was 6'2" when born. >> baby taking its time coming out. swaying, and then, boom.
2:45 pm
>> the baby comes out that is the placenta hanging there. then turned around like, nothing see here, just my beautiful little baby. >> kind of looks like -- >> a water balloon. >> and no! >> mom starts to clean the baby up. >> what a good mom. look at her pulling away. >> they ate that, oh. >> you got to get rid of this. >> what they do? dogs do the same thing. >> the baby lifted its head up. >> look how long its neck is. i've seen birth videos before but never a giraffe. according to the zoo, everything was okay. you can see some of the people, going, wow. >> yeah! >> no noise from the giraffe, no noise from the baby. >> pretty calm. i'm sure, like, human mothers wish it was this calm. this dude's about to pop the big question. >> over and over and -- over again. >> find out why so many proposals, next. plus, wednesday's word you'll need for your chance at winning an ipad mini, "right this minute."

2:49 pm
>> why are they doing this? >> why not do it, because you can get a lot of free stuff. if you're, like, a starving couple out there, go to a restaurant and do a fake proposal. >> seriously. they're getting a ton of attention. >> thank you so much. it's an 85 carat. i do, i do. >> throughout the video he actually just proposes to just random people on the street. >> will you marry me? please? i can help you take care of the baby. we first met here in grand central. >> i love him, because he's playing along. >> yes, yes. >> either in the library -- being very quiet. according to stanford university, if you're given super powers in a virtual world, you're more likely to engage in altruistic behavior in the real world. you can see this guy has the whole virtual reality mask. >> the child unaccounted for and parents informed the authorities their child is diabetic. your tas the child and deliver the incident. >> to tell us, we have our super resident -- >> zack. >> what's up, homey? start saving people in real life? >> not exactly. you saw the experimental group, where the people flew around. a control group of people who sat in a helicopter and the were delivered to the person. afterwards the people in the experimental group took them into a survey. the person who is telling them about it spilled over, and the people with superpowers were quicker to help the person out and pick up the pencil.

2:56 pm
they need to strengthen their paddles to be able to withhold supersonic speed. we have a couple editors, who are very, very skilled in ping-pong. i think the only way to beat these two is with this. >> put it up your sleeve, you'd never know was there. >> do not try this at home. you've all heard of friends with benefits, right? how about breakfast with benefits? >> sometimes it feels like making breakfast is hard. real hard. >> that's what i'm talking about from cablespoon.com a very informational, important video, because breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but, you know, you are need to mix it up. you can't always have waffles and pancakes. >> let's make it easy, baby. >> and they have a nice recipe. mix up a little milk, yogurt, throw in -- >> stir them up. >> why not kimwa? >> what is that? this is creepy. the guy is making creepy noises towards the camera. the voice is creepy. the scene is creepy.
